The dress. The quintessential senior photo staple! Dresses are universally flattering, and they look absolutely gorgeous in every senior shoot. I’ve had girls bring everything from a cotton sundress to their prom dresses, and everything in between…they never disappoint! But, finding that perfect dress can be much more challenging, and it can even feel impossible. That’s why I’ve rounded up a fresh batch of dresses for summer and fall, and you may just find The One!

-Free People: This is nearly always my first place to start when I’m looking for a drop-dead-gorgeous dress that is a true showstopper. It is a pricier option, but they really don’t disappoint. This season, it’s all about the interesting textures and non traditional lengths. Whether you go for a midi or a maxi length, you’ll be hard pressed to find a regular, knee-length dress. But, this means what you WILL find this season on Free People, are dresses filled with drama! Check out this gorgeous maxi, with flowing sleeves…the color would work for a fall session since the sleeves are lightweight. For warmer weather, this pretty yellow number is flattering, has a gorgeous back detail, and has a bit more structure.
-Anthropologie: Another hit for those truly amazing dresses, Anthropologie is the sister company of Free People. Although it’s geared for a slightly older demographic, you can find some real gems on their website. This eyelet midi dress in black is very classic, but adds some interest with the cut of the sleeve. A midi length is perfect for the girl who loves a very elegant style, and who wants something that will withstand the test of time. You can browse all of their choices HERE.

-Lulus: Whether you are looking for a dress for a wedding, brunch with your friends, or that amazing senior session dress, Lulus has one of the widest selections. They are also a bit more affordable, with dresses hovering around the $50-$99 range. The fabrics tend to be more synthetic or lower quality, but they will certainly get you through a season or two of light wear. This $70 maxi dress has a flattering wrap silhouette, and would be gorgeous on you taller ladies (petites may need it hemmed because it is not available to order in a shorter length)! It also comes in a solid blue that would look amazing on just about everyone! PS: Don’t forget to check out their outlet for rock-bottom prices.
TJ Maxx and Marshalls: We can’t link to the dresses available at these stores, due to their rotating inventory. But, if you have one of these stores nearby, be sure to head there before you invest in an expensive dress. You may just luck out and find a designer piece for a little less money. We have spotted items from Nordstrom (beachlunchlounge, BP, One Clothing, Free People, Lucky Brand), Saks Fifth Avenue, and other high-end stores for less than $50. They often only carry one or two of each type of item, but if you have the time to search, you can totally find some amazing deals.
Lastly, when it comes to dresses, look for a cut that makes you feel amazing. Wrap and maxi dresses photograph beautifully, and have lots of pretty movement that lends itself well to senior photos. If have any questions, please let me know. I’d love to help answer any wardrobe conundrums you might be facing!
