Senior photos. Most of my guy clients fall into two camps: They are neutral about senior photos, or they are simply there because their parents want some updated photos to celebrate the moment. It’s always my goal to change their perception of senior photos, and help them see that it’s not a drudgery; it can actually be fun! While I don’t get many who hate having their picture taken, I also get several who are skeptical about getting “dressed up” and posing during their shoot. Nonetheless, they always leave smiling! Here’s the four things I want my guy seniors to know:

-I’m here to help: If you’re not into trendy clothes or following the latest styles, that’s okay! My goal is to help you look like YOU, not like a version of yourself. If you want to wear everyday clothes and not include fancy props, that’s just fine. Many senior guys cringe at the idea of putting on a button down or suit jacket, but I really encourage you to have just ONE polished outfit in addition to your everyday or casual clothing, because that is usually the portrait that your parents want for graduation or announcements or you can use as an image to submit for an internship. I am always here for wardrobe consultations or advice, and I also have a few great shopping spots up my sleeve if you are struggling to find the right pieces.

-Cheesy poses are SO over! I’m not into the super cheesy guy poses, so rest assured! My style veers towards modern and simple, and I always gauge the poses by the personality of my client. I will also coach you through each and every pose, so that you feel natural and confident, instead of stiff and awkward. Pinterest has lots of ideas too, if you’re inclined to practice or want to see what others are doing. You can also check out my portfolio for examples! Most importantly, I want these images to look like YOU and that means having your body language and poses match YOU! With guy sessions, it’s mostly about having fun and doing what you love. That may be fishing, baseball, or jumping off a pier (lol)……whatever that may be, let’s capture it.

-Let’s figure out what makes you YOU! I believe each and every session should have something that sets it apart and celebrates the person that you are. Whether that is your sports equipment (soccer ball, basketball, football…), your varsity jacket, your car, your pet, or your musical instrument, I would love to hear about what you may want to include. Our ability to accommodate every prop or idea is limited by the location that we are working at, but I work really hard to make sure every idea is heard, considered, and attempted as much as I am able! If you don’t want to include any props and want straightforward senior photos, please let me know and we will think of a location that speaks for itself!

-Speak up and keep an open mind: Even if you feel like you are doing senior photos for your parents, don’t be afraid to speak up about what you want. I want to listen, and believe honest communication is the best way to achieve the session that you want. Please use any time we have together to let me know about anything you are thinking or feeling, and how I can tailor the shoot just for you. It’s my goal that you always walk away feeling heard. Please keep an open mind if I suggest things, and give me feedback so that I can make adjustments!
Lastly, I am on your side! Know that I want to be your teammate, and give you the end result we all want: amazing senior photos that you’ll be able to look back in the years to come!
